International Acrobatics Convention 2010

Acro: What the…..!!!!

After attending and teaching at the 3rd International Acrobatics Convention in France, I was left aghast at the shear level, skill and expertise of both the teachers and participants who attended. It was a fabulous opportunity to learn from the amazing and abundantly experienced teachers, not only running the workshops but participating at the Convention also. I was left often shell shocked by the potential of what human bodies can do with focus, direction and lots and lots of training. It just makes me realise how much of a journey I have ahead of me on my acrobatic path. Needless to say the pictures supporting the blog are here to inspire rather than to shock.

Yeay to more Acro!!!

AcroYoga tourists in Norway

A Norwegian Adventure

Always the potential to be a tourist attraction

What a beautiful country is Norway! After spending ten days with a most generous host Thomas Horgen, a budding AcroYoga enthusiast and professional climber, both Tobias and I could not have been in better hands. What did we get up to? In between weekend workshops in Oslo and Trondheim, we managed to head up into the mountains to practice our yoga, rock climb in the big outdoors, taught teenage children AcroYoga, swam but in my case paddle in freezing clear river water and all under the canopy of glorious sunshine!!

It felt like holiday! Absolutely fabulous or ‘fantastiske’ in Norwegian. It was a great opportunity to be out in the glorious county a lovely change from metropolitan urbanite living, ‘Man I am so blessed!!’

AcroYoga Level 2 Teacher Training

OMG a low hand to hand

All in a days training!

Having just recently completed my AcroYoga Level 2 Teacher Training at Frog Lotus Yoga in North Adams Massachusetts.  I have yet to process the sheer volume of learning that I had experienced in a period of just under three weeks.  One thing is for certain, the student mind and the state of constant learning is something I am valuing more and more.   I was one of 15 invited AcroYoga teachers from around the globe.  I was so honoured to be invited and be among such esteemed and accomplished teachers from all manner of yoga traditions.  The collective sense of community and desire to share skills and experience was truly awesome.  We were like a tapestry of shining stars set against a beautiful clear deep blue sky all supporting each other to provide a skyline of abundant brilliance.  See what we got up to here.

One big happy family

What an amazing week long holiday with Jaqui and her yoga friends.

Our villa, surrounded by vast swathes of nature – mountains, rivers and the sea, reminded me of my lovely hometown in Japan and with the owners Paul and Paola treating us like family; the whole experience was overtly welcoming. The focus of this holiday was the amazing yoga lessons by Jaqui who is an incredible woman; her stamina and determination are truly inspirational. Although I see her once or twice a week at her regular class, she totally changed my overall thinking on what Yoga is all about both  physically and mentally. I was immensely impressed the way she prepared to the finest details an excellent curriculum on personal body and mind improvements. I can’t thank you enough for making this a truly memorable holiday.

I would also like to thank all the members of the group who both took care of and encouraged me to undertake this – something I never thought I could do alone.

A letter from America

The sky is the limit

When you guys were here in California recently, me and my friend took two of your Acroyoga workshops (the one in West LA and the other in Long Beach). We were hooked right away at our first lesson, which was good because we had really high hopes of being able to incorporate some Acroyoga into a dance piece that I was invited to do at one of the largest bellydance festivals in Southern California.

After the two workshops we took (Art of Spotting and the one on Thai Massage) with you guys, Tari and I worked diligently twice a week for 5-6 weeks to learn more basics of Acroyoga with the help of the video and manual. It was fun and really hard at the same time. We laughed a lot. I farted on Tari a couple times which made us laugh more! We over did it once and I fell which I cried really hard over; luckily I didn’t get injured but it was a very emotional moment that brought us closer together and made me remember how important it is to have a spotter (which we did after that).

More importantly, we are in love with the practice and are committed to doing it for a lifetime! We really appreciate the skills you taught, how you taught it, and just for being so inspiring!

If you want, please view this video to see the fruits of our labor. The first part is my dance solo, followed by 5+ minutes of Acroyoga (much of it taken from the video with slight aesthetic modifications to make it look more dance-y). The last part with the juggling balls was taken from the first workshop we took with you guys (see what an impact you had on us!)

Love

Gigi
