The first AcroYoga offering at Stone Monkey Yoga come along and explore new ways of connection, explore your parameters of trust and tap into your potential of child like play.

Open to all levels, all ages, all people are welcome to join the AcroYoga Community.

This day provides a safe environment to explore trust, connection and playfulness. We will combine elements from Yoga, Acrobatics, and Thai Massage.

The morning session will focus on therapeutic flying and Thai massage where you will explore your ability to be sensitive and receptive. Students will learn and practice honest, clear, compassionate communication to build the foundation of partnership. We will draw upon the natural forces of gravity and “metta” loving kindness to encourage the body to let go of fear and tension. The flow of basing and flying, giving and receiving, honoring and accepting, inhaling and exhaling will take both yogis into a new place of union and bliss. Some yoga experience recommended, no partner needed.

The building potential is limitless

There is a proposed 1.5hr lunch break.

The afternoon session will cover basic acrobatics and flying. Learn to flip, spin, drop back and float, all while suspended in the air with the support of a partner! Using time-tested acrobatic training techniques, students will learn how to combine basic flying positions with inversions to create dynamic flying flows. We will demonstrate techniques for bases, flyers and spotters that will keep the flying safe and supported. Come with a familiarity with handstands.

The day will be taught by Jaqui Wan and the second AcroYoga teacher is to be confirmed.

London Yogathon 2011

The London Yogathon

A number of yoga practitioners, who also happen to be members of LA Fitness in London where I also teach, have rallied together to bring you Team Yoga Junkies. They are fund raising for the Rain Forest Foundation, a fabulous charity which needs our support.

On the 30th October 2010, Team Yoga Junkies will be challenged to complete 108 Surya Namaskaras (Sun Salutations) in a single session. A Surya Namaskara is an energising and healing sequence of yoga asanas (postures), pranayamas (breathing techniques), mantra and meditation techniques. Completing all 108 Sun Salutations will prove to be both a physical and mental demanding and I hope you can help them to raise a minimum of £648 for completing the Yogathon.

“Before you play jazz you got to study and practice the scales” (Jason Nemer)

Expect to play upside down with simple inversions to turn your world around bringing out your inner child. This workshop we will cover the foundations of static acrobatic balancing to develop greater levels of confidence in an environment of safety. We will also focus on the qualities of spotting crucial skill for what we have in store for you this coming weekend. No experience necessary.

Saturday expansion – stepping up to your potential (intermediate)
“This physical environment is your playground of expansion” (Abraham Hicks)

Delving deeper into the principles of acrobatics, we will focus on alignment and strength as the building blocks to embodying inversions and acrobatic balancing. We will create a safe container based on the spotting skills acquired from Friday evening and using these foundations and a smattering of games and group exercises we will progress from basic to more complex partner acrobatics; cultivating trust and clear communication, whilst homing in on the roles of basing and flying.

Sunday creation – open to joy and grace (intermediate – advanced)
“What we play is life” (Louis Armstrong)

Building on the foundations of previous day, we will work on simple to complex flying transitions and washing machines with a focus on artistic expression and presentation. Working mainly in acrobatic trios, with clearly defined roles of being a base or flyer; the day will focus on the ability to work with creativity, fluidity, compassion, honesty and mutual support to achieve the groups’ success through a variety of acrobatic skills and tricks. You will be faced with challenges and fears but will learn how to deal with them head on through your inner strength, group support and a knowledge that safety is everyones priority.
