Japan Appeal: After The Event

After the event – Japan Disaster Appeal

What an afternoon! I was completely blown away by both the turn out and energy of the participants and teachers.  It was a great success and a testament to how ideas can be manifested into action and with collaborative effort, bring about all manor of infinite possibilities. Our event auspiciously coincided with the waning moon, which gave all of us the opportunity to reflect and consolidate, as well as reboot and consider new beginnings.

A big thank you to:-

  • Idir Talbi for instigating the idea.
  • All the teachers and gifted yoga practitioners who led the Sun Salutations, providing much needed energy and inspiration.
  • Takako Yoshihara and Naomi Hawkes for their meticulous counting skills.
  • Vaclav Elias for sorting out the fab cakes, pictures and added humour during the Sun Salutations.
  • Staff @ LA Fitness West India Quay for supporting and agreeing to host this event.

Pictures and footage will be available shortly.

Japan Disaster Appeal

Japan Disaster Appeal

Event: 108 Sun Salutations.

Date: 2nd April 2011

Like you, I have been numbed into silence with scenes I have seen from Japan, with this completely natural yet phenomenally incomprehensible disaster.

The feeling of loss and helplessness came all over me. But it was one of my yoga students who helped sow this seed.

The idea is to do 108 sun salutations to show our empathy, sympathy and our solidarity to the Japanese people who are going through all manner of upheaval, loss and trauma.

We would like you to participate and or teach, if not donate your hard earned cash to the British Red Cross, who have agreed to direct our raised funds to the Japan Red Cross who are directly involved in the relief effort.

LA Fitness West India Quay, has kindly donated their studio for free and for it to be open for anyone to come along and participate. Basically this event is open to non members.

However, non members will be required to fill in a waiver form and bring photo ID with them. Booking is required and can be done so through mailing me.

If you are interested in getting sponsorship for each sun salutation please mail me your email address and I will invite you on to the donations site which in full below.

Am also sending out to all yoga teachers who are interested in teaching 9-12 sun salutations, again email me and let me know.

OK, lets get this show on the road and demonstrate how we can work together in support in solidarity.

Any other suggestions of help would be appreciated.

Yoga Flash Mob

So did it happen?

Some of us actually got completely stuck with the traffic,.. on the day the London hit a Saturday late morning afternoon snow storm,.. OK that may be a bit 0f too much personal information about where I was at,… but life goes on and I am not the center of the universe.

The Yoga Flash mob happened,… click here to see!

Organised by Yoga for Unity

Posted: 7th December 2010

Date: 18th December 2010
Time: 12.30-13.30hrs
Location Covent Garden

Yoga For Unity is working on an awareness campaign for a charity group called The Africa Yoga Project to support Kenyan yoga teachers who, using yoga are tackling Tribalism in their country. Already this has seen many youths, who were idle and living in the slums, to receive a personal transformation through the practice of yoga. It is this experience that the yoga teachers would like to take out to the the rural districts in Ke…nya Rift Valley, to bring transformation on community levels.

Yoga For Unity is having it’s big launch for this awareness campaign on Saturday 18th December and will be hosting “Flash Mob” style events in London, in LA and in Kenya. These events will be Yoga Sessions, where volunteers on the day in guise as normal members of the public will drop to the floor, roll out yoga mats and will complete the Sun Salutation series for 5 – 10 minutes.

The London event will be on Saturday, December 18 at 1pm in Covent Garden (more exact location to come) and will last about 5-10 minutes, max. We are pushing publicity for this event far and wide and we’re promising a short, edited video of the three events combined. We will load this up on Youtube once the event is over to carry on the support over Christmas!

My 108 New Year Sun Salutations

My New Year Sun-salutations

OK the whole 108 took two and a quarter hours on the Saturday morning from 10-12.15pm.  Have to say after about 30 – 40 sun salutations I began thinking to myself why did I decide to do this?  I could stop now and no one would know, I have no witnesses to say the contrary,… but I persevered and by about 80 I realised I was on the home straight.

Have to say felt very exhilarated after doing it, but my hamstrings (backs of my legs) have been soar for the last few days.

AcroYoga FUNdamentals Day @ Stone Monkey

A day of AcroYoga indulgence at Stone Monkey

When: Sunday 8th May 2011, 10.30-6pm

Jai Hanuman

Where: Stone Monkey, Leamington Spa UK

Cost: £45

The first AcroYoga offering at Stone Monkey Yoga come along and explore new ways of connection, explore your parameters of trust and tap into your potential of child like play.

Open to all levels, all ages, all people are welcome to join the AcroYoga Community.

This day provides a safe environment to explore trust, connection and playfulness. We will combine elements from Yoga, Acrobatics, and Thai Massage.

The morning session will focus on therapeutic flying and Thai massage where you will explore your ability to be sensitive and receptive. Students will learn and practice honest, clear, compassionate communication to build the foundation of partnership. We will draw upon the natural forces of gravity and “metta” loving kindness to encourage the body to let go of fear and tension. The flow of basing and flying, giving and receiving, honoring and accepting, inhaling and exhaling will take both yogis into a new place of union and bliss. Some yoga experience recommended, no partner needed.

The building potential is limitless

There is a proposed 1.5hr lunch break.

The afternoon session will cover basic acrobatics and flying. Learn to flip, spin, drop back and float, all while suspended in the air with the support of a partner! Using time-tested acrobatic training techniques, students will learn how to combine basic flying positions with inversions to create dynamic flying flows. We will demonstrate techniques for bases, flyers and spotters that will keep the flying safe and supported. Come with a familiarity with handstands.

The day will be taught by Jaqui Wan and the second AcroYoga teacher is to be confirmed.
