Lunar Day 1017

Take in a deep breath and sigh out the stresses and strains that hold you. Take this day to collectively reconnect and release, to ground, accept and witness.

The morning will consist of: –

  • an asana practice to prepare your physical and mental body into giving and receiving;
  • a Thai massage sequence to aid energetic flow in the body; and
  • attention to details: –
    • in working with the breath,
    • the sensitivity of touch with gravity and body weight, and
    • the use of harmonics and vibrations as a tool to release and unblock.

In the afternoon we will apply the skills from the morning into flying therapeutics. This involves a base and flyer; the base grounds and suspends the flyer with their hands and feet.  The passive nature of the flyer enables the base to sculpt the flyer into a variety of shapes that stretch and opens the flyer’s upper body, enabling the potential release of tension and muscular holding patterns.

We will cover: –

  • what to look for: –
    • to see where hold patterns may be and
    • to witness, with time and space, changes in these holding patterns,
  • a series of passive flyer extensions, asymmetric stretches and twists, and
  • therapeutic flying transitions.

An opportunity to connect, to listen and be present in a supportive and collective way.  Be prepared for the cuddle puddles.

Exploring Inversions: Sunday 9th April 2017, 1-4.30pm

The majority of our physical time is spent upright or horizontal, rarely do we spend our days inverted, UPSIDE DOWN.

Yet, there are many listed health benefits to inversions these include the: –

  • cardiovascular,
  • lymphatic,
  • endocrine and
  • nervous systems to name a few.

Not only are there health benefits, but it can also be a lot of fun to disorientate your perspective of the world and seeing it from the ground up.

Students will learn: –

  • the alignment techniques and strength elements that provide tools for the understanding and embodiment of inversions; and
  • support their partner as spotter and coach.

We will focus on all manor of inversions from the simple; the forward bend, downward facing dog to the more complex forearm balances, headstand and handstands.

Its time challenge yourself and bring back your youthful fearlessness, what better way to do this than being inverted?

Some yoga or body practice would be an advantage.  We will build it up progressively working on upper body strength, core conditioning and wrist awareness. Be prepared to work in pairs or in small groups.

We will work in a safe and supportive environment will empower the whole room to be upside down and play!
