AcroYoga Fun Day @ Stonemonkey

Back by popular demand AcroYoga @ Stonemonkey Yoga

When: Sunday 30th September 2012, 10.30-6pm

Where: Stonemonkey Yoga, Leamington Spa UK

Cost: £45 before 14th September or £55 after.

Tap into your light hearted self and your inner playful child. On the day you will discover the art of flying therapeutics at one en of the spectrum to your acrobatic genius and potential at the other. Don’t be put off by the word ‘acrobatics’ we will work progressively within the container of safety and joy. Come with an open mind and willingness to turn your world upside down.

We will explore therapeutic flying & Thai massage where you will explore your ability to be sensitive and receptive. Students will learn and practice honest, clear, compassionate communication to build the foundation of partnership. We will draw upon the natural forces of gravity and “metta” loving kindness to encourage the body to let go of fear and tension. The flow of basing and flying, giving and receiving, honoring and accepting, inhaling and exhaling will take both yogis into a new place of union and bliss. Some yoga experience recommended, no partner needed.

There is a proposed 1.5hr lunch break.

We will cover basic acrobatics and flying. Learn to flip, spin, drop back and float, all while suspended in the air with the support of a partner! Using time-tested acrobatic training techniques, students will learn how to combine basic flying positions with inversions to create dynamic flying flows. We will demonstrate techniques for bases, flyers and spotters that will keep the flying safe and supported. Come with a familiarity with handstands.

The day will be taught by Jaqui Wan and Naomi Hawkes.

Joerg – I wonder how much of those rather precise and fragile balances the flying person experiences in acroyoga can be translated into CI positions on someone’s pelvis and centre? I’ve developed some material that uses the intelligence of the underdancer’s legs (using the acroyoga postion of the supporter) I call it pediplulation material. Maybe the CI pelvis/

centre area can learn from the intelligence of supporting and manipulating feet in acroyoga. In general I’d like to find more curiosity in CI for moments of fine balances in almost stillness, exploring how minimal shifts can change a lot: joy outside of a continuous flow.

Jaqui – Question: how to combine spontaneity and fluidity with force and agility? How to move and interchange from base to flyer to base and how we combine the themes of trust and connection through movement into and out of fragile balances or points of touch . . .
