Inversions 101

An introductory workshop into the world of inversions.  

This workshop is ideal for anyone new in inversions wanting to cover the basics for anyone with regular yoga, movement or bodywork practice with an interest in being upside down. 

We will cover the elements to three classic inversions: – 

  • Sirsasana / headstands and their variations 
  • Pincha Maryasana / forearm balances and 
  • handstands.

There is potential to explore a range of arm balancing which may include: – 

    • Bakasana / crow 
    • Tittibasana / firefly, 

We will cover alignment techniques, strength training, the embodiment of inversions and how safely take weight on your arms and hands. 

We will build up progressively by working on upper body stamina, core conditioning, wrist strength and finger power. 

Prerequisites:

  • Should be comfortable being upside down

Thai & Fly Spring 2023 Series

• Flying Therapeutics: Sunday 2nd April 2023, 2.30 – 5.30pm

Costs: 

The flying therapeutics workshop on the 2nd April 2023, 2.30 – 5.30pm will explore: –  
 
  • partner stretches to explore the themes of collaboration and communication; 
  • the principles of basing and flying and sustainability through alignment; and 
  • present the principle positions and transitions of therapeutic flying.  

No partner or experience is necessary.

AcroYoga Fundamentals with Sylvia Garcia and Jaqui Wan

AcroYoga Fundamentals with Sylvia Garcia and Jaqui Wan

Learn to take your yoga up in the air as we show you how to base and fly some of the fundamental acroyoga poses. After a very long Acro break for most of us, we will look at the alignment and form of some of the acroyoga basics. For those of you who are new or rusty, we will have beginner-friendly content and will give more advanced options for those with more experience.

We will be working in small groups with someone spotting each trick to ensure safety! You can come alone or bring a friend. If you prefer to stay in a bubble please come as a three so you can have a base, flyer and spotter for every trick without needing to rotate! Warning, the content of this workshop is very fun and highly addictive!

Thai & Fly at Tokei

An afternoon’s introduction to Thai massage and flying therapeutics; also referred to as the restorative ‘lunar’ side of AcroYoga. 

I will bring to this workshop, my 15 years of experience as both an AcroYoga teacher and Thai massage practitioner for more info about me see the following link.

This workshop is aimed at holding space for empathetic connections, therapeutic touch and the Buddhist concept of loving-kindness, “Metta Bhavana”.

We will start with: – 
  • a yoga practice to allow ourselves to be in tune with our own flexibility and alignment;
  • touch on partner stretches to explore the themes of collaboration and honest communication; 
  • introduce the basic principles of Thai massage by conducting a led sequence; and   
  • present the foundations of therapeutic flying.  

No partner or experience is necessary.

An introduction to the world of balancing on your hands.  

Have you been baffled by arm balances?  Is it strength? Is it flexibility?  Or is it overcoming the fear? 

This workshop is ideal for anyone with regular yoga, movement or bodywork practice, especially for those who have been keen to discover more about their hands and arm balancing potential.  

We will cover the three classic inversions: – 

  • Sirsasana / headstands, 
  • PIncha Maryasana / forearm balances and 
  • handstands.

We will explore a range of arm balancing including: – 

  • Tittibasana / firefly, 
  • Parsva Bakasana / side crow and 
  • Eka Pada Koudiyasana / split leg arm balance, 
  • but there will be more to explore. 

We will cover alignment techniques, strength training, the embodiment of inversions and how safely take weight on your arms and hands. 

We will build up progressively working on upper body stamina, core conditioning, wrist strength and finger power. 

Prerequisites: 

  • Should be comfortable being upside down and 
  • Be able to do a headstand against a wall for 15 seconds.
